LYRICS, THE STORY IN THE MUSIC

Song Lyrics by: Michael Sean Perry

{c: Intro}

{c: Verse}

I make my living jumping into barrels

Making a fool for crowds and the fiercest of animals

That’d like nothing more than to see the color of my blood

My bones every morning say to me

The same thing as the bulls every time I see ‘em

You ain’t long for this trade boy find something else

So I got this band plays three nights a week

We play my songs and a few others to please

The crowds that show up to drink, dance and get loud

I got this girl in San Antone

Hooked on her love like a puppy to the bone

Breaks me up every time I have to ramble on

If I could sell some songs I’d buy some land

Settle down start living like a good man

And quit this life of peril and certain doom

Lickin’ my wounds and drinkin’ in the day

Pull a good check but got hell to pay

We got another two shows this week then it’s up to Amarillo

{c: Chorus}

I’m just a Clown About Town and I ain’t backing down

Making my way through this hard knock world

At night I’m playing music for the crowds

In the day I’m getting knocked around

Coming to a town near you

{c: Verse}

So during a show the other night

Started up one hell of a fight

Between two ole boys named Jim and a gal named Sue

First there was shoving and just a spilled brew

Till Sue says “Stop it Jim, I love you!”

Then punches started flying when both Jims answered back the same!

Well Jim throws a haymaker a split second late

It misses Jim but hits Bob in the face

and well Ole Jim-Bob and having no one beating on his friends

About that time someone threw a chair

Into the crowd that was dancing there

as all hell broke loose the drummer’s yelling

“Don’t stop the song!”

There was scratching and biting gouging and kicking

Sue’s in there yelling screaming and bitchin’

Then original Jim got knocked on his butt in front of the stage

Well I knew the band had a four count break

Coming up the next verse and I could take

This opportunity to spread some peace throughout Texas

So I counted “1 2 3 4”

And hit Jim in the back of the head with my guitar

And knocked his dumb ass out colder than a prairie night

{c: Chorus}

Just a Clown About Town and I ain’t backing down

Making my way through this hard knock world

Everybody gets an ass whoopin’ sometime

at least I pick when I’m getting mine

Coming to a town near you

{c: Verse}

So the crowd yells “winner! winner! chicken dinner!”

Turns up their glass, goes back to sinnin’

And we all got a happy ending coming just around the bend

Lo and behold out in that crowd

Was a publishing man who was looking around

For an ole boy who could write him a song or two

He said “if you can write ‘em like you been living

You and me boy we gonna make a killing!”

I assumed the gentleman meant this figuratively

I said “If I were you and you were me

We still wouldn’t know nothing about being free

But making a good living is as close as an honest man gets”

So I moved in with my girl in San Antone

I wrote some hit songs might have heard them on your phone

Enjoying her loving and I ain’t broke a bone since May

{c: Chorus}

Just a Clown About Town and I ain’t backing down

Making my way through this hard knock world

At night I’m lovin’ on my girl

In the day I’m trying to change the world

Staying in this town near you

I’m staying in this town near you
